Photography

I have been taking photographs and writing stories for as long as I can remember.

With my unique experience of more than 35 years as a veterinary scientist, I have an understanding of animal behaviour that enables me to capture images in a way that others cannot. Through the lens of fine art photography and photo-essays, I document the bonds between animals, humans and their environment. My aim is to use my unique perspective to raise awareness of animal emotions and welfare.

My photography has taken me around the world. and I love to explore new places where people live and work with animals. I feel most alive when I am in the wilderness with just my camera and the animals. Some highlights have included walking trips in Africa, fishing for piranhas in the Amazon, watching chuck-wagon racing at the Calgary stampede and learning about cattle management in the Northern Territory of Australia. While kayaking down the Zambesi River, dodging hippos, elephants and crocodiles, I remember looking at the banks in the distance and thinking, “If I die now it will have been worth it.”

My portfolio also includes an extensive travel series, and many of the places I have photographed no longer exist as they were.

I showcase my photo-essays on my website (annejackson.com.au), where you can purchase my fine art photography prints, photobooks, acrylic blocks and downloadable images. I am currently working on a photobook, Following the Water, showing the interaction of animals and the desert environment between the water holes in Namibia.

When I have a spare moment, I enjoy planning my next international photography trip, learning cabinet making and singing to my grandson. I also have an avid interest in family history. You can find my geobiographical work at fenvillages.com.
